Appreciate Others Not Like You

I have have a pet peeve concerning people who want or expect others to be like them or like someone else.
But I do catch myself thinking this way at times too!

Think about it though…
We are ALL different and that is a freakin’ beautiful thing!

I told my kid once, “imagine if all the players on your soccer team were the same, played the same and acted the same in each situation… your team wouldn’t be very good.” The same applies to us!

In order, to help a team, a society, a work team, parenting, etc. you must have different things to offer. You can make up for someone else’s weakness and they can make up for yours. That’s a very cool thing.

Imagine if everyone was like you, thought like you… NO THANK YOU!!

  1. we wouldn’t be unique

  2. we really won’t be able to be successful

  3. we wouldn’t be able to overcome some issues or dilemmas

We possess different things from different people, different personalities,
different strengths to offer the world around us.
How unfortunate it would be if we could only focus on others being like us or thinking like us, not appreciating them what they have to offer.
Talk about not having different outlooks or things to consider.

We need to start looking at this like a strength and not a weakness and stop putting this pressure on our kids or us to be like someone else.

What can we do for them or ourselves to help grow our own strengths and thrive?

What can we do to remember that these kids are human and not perfect either… just like us.

It’s important to remember this, not only for our kids but for ourselves. We, as adults, DON’T know everything, we DON’T have all the answers, AND we don’t always know the best thing to do. At any age, we can each find our “answers,” simply by growing and living.

Give others the same grace you would want as a human that struggles from time to time.
